​The history of mining in the UK, with an emphasis on surface mining at Brenkley & Shotton - by Banks Mining Group

​Caring for trees in Northumberland - an illustrated talk by Barry Robson from Northumberland C.C. Includes information about the work done throughout Northumberland, monitoring the health of existing trees for disease, motoring, pedestrian and property safety, removal and replanting.   Budgets, financial contributions and requests from the public will be discussed.

​Wildlife flourishes under the flight path - an illustrated presentation by a representative from Northumberland Wildlife Trust  There are three thriving, amazingly rich, wildlife nature reserves within two miles of Newcastle International Airport - Havannah, Prestwick Carr and Big Water Nature Reserves - which were all former colliery sites.   Big Waters (almost directly under the flight path) is one of the North East's finest havens for wildlife and is declared a Site of Special Scientific Interest.   Numerous species of birds, wildlife, trees and flowers will be discussed.

​The AGM will be followed by a talk by Carl Halliday, Course Team Leader, Outdoor Adventure Academy, Kirkley Hall.
